Barry Galbraith Guitar Solos PDF. Barry Galbraith was one of the best jazz guitarists of the 1950's. He was also a fine music reader who would write out his own arrangements of standards for his students. Both his playing and his writing are very straightforward. This book takes thirteen of Barry's rough, hand-written arrangements and adds chord symbols, left-hand fingering, and tablature. The companion CD was recorded by John Purse. Also included in the book are quotes about Barry from many other famous musicians, a 7-page article on Barry by his son Don, an obituary by George Russell, and numerous pictures of Barry at different times in his life.
These arrangements are so unique, moving, musical, inspiring and sometimes haunting. They are fully annotated - with tab for complete fingering and complete chord names. Fingerings are very playable and natural and it is easy to give the music relaxed feel - one thing that is immediately obvious when you start playing these arrangements is how good they sound on a guitar. They are obviously done by musician with deep knowledge of the instrument. They are perfect as relaxed, solo repertoire pieces and they will add many useful phrases to your chord-melody vocabulary. Highly recommended for jazz guitarists and perhaps even classical players. The CD is wonderful to even just listen to by itself.
Make sure you take the time to analyze what's going on with the chords, and not just memorizing the notation or tabs, and you'll be able to get the most out of Mr. Galbraith's solos.
