This method book is excellent if you are starting from the ground up with little no background at all. Covers all the basics like posture to nail cure to reading notes in the first position (in the first 4 frets). It will gradually guide you to playing the notes on each string in the first position. If you master each section then move on to the next, you should be able to have a decent ability in sightreading in the first position.
