Jul 15 2014
A hit with teachers and students alike, this great collection of exercises and technical studies breaks up the tedium of doing the same old routine every day. Includes daily warm-ups, lessons on right- and left-hand technique, and more.
Jody Fisher, a teacher who has many titles: Professor of Jazz and Studio Guitar University of Redlands, in Redlands, CA, the University of La Verne, in La Verne, CA, and the Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts (ISOMATA), in Idyllwild, CA. In this video course will tell you about the basic concepts of jazz, will reveal important aspects of guitar playing.
Jody Fisher is a good teacher. Patient, methodical, not assuming you already know things, he walks you through basics, from how to sit to how to hold each hand and finger and how to pick, and he provides and demonstrates exercises which have been very good practice for me in fundamental technique.
This book is aptly named because it will definitely give you a workout. The four warmups in here are excellent. The DVD focuses more on developing correct picking technique and only demonstrates several of the 50 or so exercises.
Imagine you’re a pro baseball player. When you play a game, you don’t really get much practice batting, catching, throwing, or running. You need to practice those skills seperately and intensely so that when you’re called on to use them in a game, you can do them well.
The exercises in this book are for what’s essentially that same purpose. There are workouts that build the strength and dexterity your left hand needs for playing single notes and chords, and ones that develop the picking and plucking skills your right hand demands.
