Jazz Guitar Standards Chord Melody Solos PDF. This collection of jazz standard chord solos for guitar is compiled from Jazz Guitar Standards Vol. 1 and 2. What makes this work so special is that each artist has personally recorded their solo guitar arrangement. The book comes with the CDs which have all 44 tunes. This book is a wonderful anthology of solo guitar that can be used for performances as well as educational purposes.
This book is jam packed with jazz standards. Surely, anyone with a heart for jazz and chord melodies would find something in this book they like to play. And the CDs (two of them) are great. All songs played by professionals on the CDs.
The arrangements with notation and tabulature are not hard for intermediate to advanced players. My only recommendation would be to have the artist give a brief tutorial for each song working through some of the more difficult passages. Fingerings are sometimes tricky and a little help with transitions would be beneficial. If you're going to buy this book as a course, you're on your own to figure out how to play the songs. However if you are taking lessons, a good teacher could walk you through some of the tough parts.
The Arrangements are intermediate level and a good vehicle for studying what goes into a chord melody arangement. On their own they are just begging for embellishment, which is, of course, the jazz musician's job. Threat these arrangements as a basic framework and add a chord here, a lick there, other devices, and they become very nice to play.
Whether you choose to develop these tunes further or play them as written you will still have to write an intro for each piece. Some of them have endings. Most players who have studied jazz for a year or two should comfortably play this stuff. Naturally that depends on practise and talent. These are all standard tunes that the musician will need to know at some time in their career and this is an enjoyable way to learn them.
This is a spiral bound book with 44 arrangements and 2 CD's. Two outstanding arrangements are 'Misty' and 'Summertime', each by a different arranger.
