Jul 15 2014
Possession of this collection will enable any musician, independently of level and experience in jazz improvisation mastery, learn the basic styles and genres of jazz, and eventually become a true expert in this. Information for reference (for those who do not know): Jamey Aebersold Jazz Play-A-Long – the world’s best collections of exercises for jazz musicians.
Volume 51 – Night & Day. All Levels. 13 of the most popular songs ever produced by composers such as George Gershwin and Cole Porter. Like jazz tunes, many of these originated from Broadway shows. Beautiful ballads, bluesy slow swings, soaring melodies, interesting bridges, and daring lyrics have all been discovered and reinvented by Jazz’s most influential players including Monk, Tatum, Parker, and Brecker.
Volume 52 – Stardust (Collector’s Items). All Levels. Truly outstanding collection of tunes with emphasis on melody. As usual, Jazzmen have made each of these songs “standards” through their own performing. In particular, John Coltrane,Tommy Dorsey, Sarah Vaughn, and Benny Carter have enjoyed the songs well enough to record them over the decades. What better endorsement for the melodic and harmonic value of these great songs than this refreshing tour of great American songwriting.
Volume 53 – Clifford Brown. Autographed original issue LP record. Limited offer! These are the LPs that started it all, and each is signed by Jamey! Even if you don’t own a turntable, they make attractive musical tributes to another era and they are a great way to decorate your studio/practice room. Supplies are limited and subject change. This title is especially rare because it is out of print. This volume has been unavailable for many years, but we recently uncovered a limited quantity of LP records in our stock.
Volume 54 – Maiden Voyage. Beginning/Intermediate. Standards and workouts for making the transition from playing scales & chords. An excellent resource for beginning improv. Features slower tempos, easier changes, and specific tips on approaching soloing. Scales written for every chord change. Perfect for High School and College music directors! For more easy standards at easy tempos, see Volume 70 “Killer Joe.”
Volume 55 – Jerome Kern’s Jazz Classics. Intermediate/Advanced. Don’t leave home without knowing these 11 essential standards by one of America’s greatest composers. Jerome Kern’s style of composing (fresh, flowing harmonies and memorable, lyrical melodies) caught the attention of Jazz players in the 40s and 50s and still inspires thousands of new musicians every day. These Jazz Classics presented here are generally considered Kern’s finest work. Lyrics included.
