Charles Dowd – A Funky Primer For The Rock Drummer
Apr 10 2016
This best-selling, progressive encyclopedia of rock/funk patterns for all tempos utilizes a new contemporary teaching style for independence, rudiments, styles and more. The Title says it all! This book by Charles Dowd takes you through all the stages to become a great, funky Rock Drummer. Includes Drum notation for hundreds of excercises and drum patterns along with guidance, performance notes and general style tips from one of the world’s greatest drummers. Suitable for self-taught beginners or drum students and anyone who wants to hone their rock drumming techniques.
This book is especially good for those students who do no wish to learn to read music like someone needs to know in a symphony or high school band. To read the rhythms in this book you do not have to know the value of a quarter, eighth, or sixteenth note or rest. The notes are lined up on top of each other or in between each other. Most beats have the hi-hat playing steady eighth notes, so if the bass drum is directly under the first hi-hat for an exercise, then you know to play the bass drum with that note on count one, and if the snare is directly under the third hi-hat, then you know to play the snare on that note on count two. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn to play drums or expand their drumming vocabulary.
