Changuito – Evolution of the Tumbadoras
Nov 10 2015
Rhythms, techniques, and improvisation are the subjects of this tumbadora, or conga, masterclass conducted by legendary percussionist Changuito. Giovanni Hidalgo acts as interviewer as Changuito covers the essential movements for creating a sound with control. Demonstrated patterns include son montuno, guajira, batanga, abakua, palo, and bembe.
If you’re serious about your conga playing and you don’t have access to a master teacher, this is the video for you. It’s jam packed with challenging exercises and rhythms. There is at least a year’s worth of study in this video with comprehensive music notation included. If you can’t have lessons with him (he lives in Cuba), this is the next best thing!
