This pack contains 3 books (Volume I - The Reasoning Behind The Guitar's Unique Tuning, Volume II - Chords, Scales & Arpeggios Complete, Volume III - Applications: Creative and Analytical) and the DVD video for the 1st book. Each book of the Fretboard Logic Series is a masterpiece on it's own merit. Together they become the most powerful tool for understanding the guitar. It took some work to get through, but things are finally making sense. He teaches you the basic building blocks that will free you from rote memorization of chords & scales. This book makes you feel very knowledgable about the guitar very fast. Gives you a logical system to cover the fretboard with chords and lead patterns. Ties the system back (briefly) into traditional music theory.
Volume I of the series precisely explains the pattern organization of the guitar's fretboard which results from the instrument's unique tuning. All music played on the guitar, in a sense, gets filtered through the fretboard matrix of strings and frets, so it is essential to have an understanding of how the playing area of the instrument works. It is the one area which will be common to all the others you will learn. Fretboard Logic teaches it both as a completely separate area of musical education and as a prerequisite for more advanced learning.
Volume II of the series teaches the tonal elements of music in a way that eliminates the typical guesswork and rote memorization. Guesswork refers to the process of deciding by trial and error which of several duplicates is the right note for the right finger. Rote memorization refers to learning chords, etc., by put-this-finger-here, that-finger-there then rinse and repeat a million more times - dots on graphs approach. Instead of the cut and try or brute force approach, Volume II teaches you to combine the fretboard forms of Volume I with each tone groups unique music formula. This way a guitarist learns to build all the different types of chords, scales and arpeggios. The result is a method to access and retain huge amounts of music material with a minimum of effort. This approach also shaves years off the typical learning curve for guitar players.
Volume III Applications, Creative and Analytical is the part of Fretboard Logic where music theory is introduced in integrated into the unique characteristics of the instrument. After the necessary foundations are established in Volumes I and II, the guitarist now has the requisite skill set to start to tackle pitch and time relationships, and more importantly, to apply them in real world playing situations. A wide range of subjects are explained and presented in a non-linear format, which allows each player to study what is relevant to his or her needs, without wasting their time on areas in which they have no interest. Fretboard Logic offers a way to navigate the complexities of advanced music concepts without the boredom and frustration usually associated with learning these subjects on a guitar.
