If you get rhythm guitar get this. Breaks it down but not too far. Makes you want to play. He uses about 6 grooves to illustrate diffent points like classic r&b, "outside" rhythms and picking vs chordal rhythms. It's probably not what you want for your first funk tutorial. Go for Slutsky's vid instead if that's what your looking for.
Alex Weir's driving funk rhythm guitar gave many top-selling records their distinctive rhythm grooves. Here he teaches powerful techniques and gives priceless advice on tonal variations, pick speed, hand and wrist positions, improved timing, plus the great rhythm parts to hit songs he played on: Talking Heads' "Burning Down The House," "I Zimbra," "Big Business," "Genius Of Love" and "Swamp;" Jerry Harrison's "Rev It Up;" and The Brothers' Johnson's "Get The Funk Outta My Face" and "Thunder Thumbs And Lightning Licks."
